The Center for East Asian Studies invites the campus community to learn about and celebrate East Asian cultures, with food, dance, music and more on the UA Mall on Wednesday.

The East Asian Language and Culture Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., near Old Main, with an array of activities connected to the academic programs on campus, which include language and cultural courses centered on China, Japan and Korea, said Alice F. Yu, Center for East Asian Studies Associate Director.

“Our main purpose is to promote our programs to the undergraduate students and the community and to get more people to know about East Asian cultures,” Yu said.

The event will feature calligraphy, origami, cosplay, traditional games, a Chinese tea ceremony, and more. Performances will include the music from the Purple Bamboo Ensemble, the university’s Asian music club, the Korean dance moves of UnderScore, and a Tai chi performance.

Faculty members from the Department of East Asian Studies will be on hand to share information about classes, study abroad opportunities in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, and how the department can prepare students for a wide variety of career paths.

The event is sponsored by the Department of East Asian Studies, Center for East Asian Studies, and Center for Buddhist Studies.
