Three professors in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese have been promoted, demonstrating excellent performance in teaching, service and research.

Ana Cornide is promoted from Assistant Professor of Spanish and Portuguese to Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese; Faith Harden is promoted from Assistant Professor of Spanish and Portuguese to tenured Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese; and Anita Huizar Hernández is promoted from Assistant Professor of Spanish and Portuguese to tenured Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese.

Cornide is Director of the department’s Critical Service Learning and Community Outreach Program. Her research focuses on contemporary cultural and performance studies, with a strong commitment to the examination of race and ethnicity and their interchange with gender and sexuality studies.

Harden’s research and teaching center on the literary, cultural, and intellectual history of early modern transatlantic Spain, particularly the picaresque novel, autobiographical fiction and life writing, and the work of women playwrights and poets. She is an affiliated faculty in the Department of Gender and Women's Studies.

Huizar Hernández specializes in literatures and cultures of the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands, with an emphasis on Arizona. Her research investigates how narratives, both real and imagined, have shaped the political, economic, and cultural landscape of the Southwestern borderlands in general, and Arizona in particular.
